was finished; for man, his work within the creation was to be finished for that week. The word ‘all’ in verse 9 seems to stress this. While obviously there would be work to do in the week which followed, for the week which was past the work was brought to a conclusion. The spirit of the Sabbath demanded that the work of the six previous days should have been viewed as completed rather than suspended. With this view, the Sabbath could be treated as a celebration with God of what had been accomplished
